Febrilní křeče jsou většinou úvodem do horečnatého onemocnění a jejich typickým projevem jsou převážně generalizované tonicko-klonické křeče. Křečové projevy však nejsou jediným projevem a mohou mít i charakter febrilních synkop s poruchami vegetativních funkcí. V diferenciální diagnostice nutno především odlišit neuroinfekci, epileptický záchvat vznikající v rámci horečnatého infektu, febrilní synkopu, ale mnohdy i třesavku, která je rodiči interpretována jako křeče. Doporučované vyšetřovací postupy mají pomoci stav správně diagnostikovat. V terapii, především profylaktické, chybí dosud všeobecně přijímané standardní postupy a vzhledem k dobré prognóze onemocnění nutno především zvážit její negativní vedlejší účinky.
