Ve světle údajů čerpaných z medicínských informací opírajících se o fakta je třeba mít na mysli, že výrazně klesá účinnost výplachu žaludku a emetika při eliminaci škodliviny ze žaludku po 1 hodině od požití toxické látky (1, 4), přičemž většina nemocných přichází do nemocniční péče až po > 3 hodinách od intoxikace. Jako nejúčinnější metoda eliminace vystupuje do popředí podání aktivního uhlí (dávky se různí od 0,5-2,5 g/kg pro dosi, lze neomezeně opakovat). Lze dokonce tuto látku podat i doma (3). Proto pro přednemocniční péči o děti s intoxikací je nutno rozdělit toxické látky na absorbovatelné a neabsorbovatelné na aktivní uhlí.
