Osteomyelitida i v dnešní době představuje závažné onemocnění. Díky celkové komplexní léčbě a zejména antibiotikům se dramaticky zlepšila prognóza quod vitam. Aktuálními zůstávají komplikace, které vedou k trvalým následkům na pohybovém aparátu. Rychlé stanovení diagnózy, razantní a dostatečně dlouhá léčba jsou určující v předcházení těchto poškození.
