Optional vaccinations consist of vaccinations against serious illnesses; from the epidemiological point of view, they can be recommended
to various groups of children, depending on their age and other circumstances. They are not part of the regular vaccination programme.
To make a responsible decision as to what other vaccinations, above the regular vaccination programme, are suitable for their child,
parents of children under the age of 6 need to have enough information about such issues. The aim of the contribution is to introduce
to experts the current state of awareness among those parents concerning optional children’s vaccinations. The contribution presents
the results of a questionnaire survey implemented within both selected outpatient children’s facilities and kindergartens in the Moravia-
Silesian Region during the spring of 2010. The target group of the survey consists of parents of children under 6. With regard to
discovered shortcomings, the presented results should lead to improvements in parent education.
