emissions

The case report of child with present otoacoustic emissions in neonatal hearing screening is presented. At the age of two years, parents

observed that the child does not respond to sounds and speech did not develop, as well. Parents repeatedly demanded, that an objective

hearing tests should be done. However, parents suspicion was downplayed by general practitioner, repeatedly. At last, bilateral severe

hearing loss was diagnosed in up to 3 years. The most common causes of hearing impairment in children with present otoacoustic emissions

in the neonatal hearing screening are discussed. It is emphasized that even if the otoacoustic emissions are present after birth,

it does not mean that the child will certainly hear or hearing impairment can’t develop later. If there is suspicion of parents on hearing

loss, detailed examination of hearing should be done without any delay.
