Nutrition in infants with food allergy

Food allergy is at the onset of the atopic march and, in infancy, it primarily occurs in the form of cow's milk protein allergy. This allergic condition may have multiple organ manifestations which are often difficult to distinguish from other "functional" difficulties typical for this age. Assessment of the presumed immunological mechanism (IgE vs. non-IgE), properly chosen elimination diet with subsequent re-exposure to confirm the diagnosis, and close anthropometric monitoring of children with dietary restrictions are essential in the diagnostic-therapeutic process.
