Cryptorchidism, malposition of testicles - diagnosis and treatment

Cryptorchidism is a pathology of the position of the testis when it is located outside the scrotum. The incidence after the first year of age is 0,8-1,8%. In most cases it is caused by an endocrine disregulation with a deficiency of the hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis. Early diagnosis and treatment is necessary to decrease the risk of malignancy and infertility. Treatment should be started after the tenth month of age. The testis should be broght to its normal position in the scrotum before the child is two years old.
