Infectious diarrhea in children and its treatment

72 692 diarrheal diseases were reported in the year 2005 in the Czech Republic (EPIDAT). The occurence is very frequent in children, children between 1–4 years are the most affected group. Salmonellas and campylobacters are the most frequent microbial etiological agents, but in children viral gastroenteritis caused especially by rotavirus occurs frequently. Clinical picture, diagnosis and treatment of the most common diarrheal diseases are described in the article.
