Rotavirus infection in children

The paper aims to provide information on rotavirus infection. It is a diarrhoeal disease affecting almost all children under 4 years of age.

Rotaviruses are the most common cause of diarrhoea in infants and young children, most typically between 6 and 24 months of age.

They cause severe diarrhoea. They spread very rapidly and easily. Their incubation period is very short ranging from 12 hours to 4 days.

Rotavirus gastroenteritis is among the most common causes of hospitalization in children under 2 years.
