Parent´s awareness of the rights of hospitalized children

Objectives: The point of the research was to find out, how well are the parents or the legal guardians of child patient informed about

the rights arising from The Charter for Children in Czech hospital.

Metodology: To realization of investigation was used an self made anonymous questionnaire. It was divided into two parts, the first

part was common to all the parents, the second part was only for parents who have had experience with hospitalization of the child in

the hospital. The sample group contained 403 parents or legal guardians. From the total number, 205 had already personal experience

with their children hospitalization.

Results: The research results suggested that most parents had knowledge about the Hospitalized Children Rights Charter. Also it was

found that the active participation of parents in the child‘s hospitalization is very important for them and the right to be present with

child in the hospital all the time is known. The respondents pointed out that the Chart (mainly the ethical part) was not adhered by medical

staff. On the other hand, the hospital staff pointed out the potential problems with parents being present during the treatment or

diagnostic procedure and not adhering to treatment plans.

Resume: The thesis can be used for better orientation in the field of children‘s rights and to improve the care of hospitalized children

and their legal guardians.
