Hippocrates was a brilliant scientist and practitioner, physician and philosopher in his day. In the principles of his Oath, he establishedthe main source of ethical professional strength for physicians for centuries ahead. The aim of the article is to present theethical contextual framework of Hippocratic teaching, with an emphasis on the case study as a teaching method. The Hippocraticcasuistic approach advised to respect the unique and detailed nature of each case, particularly in situations when the patient, due to his condition or age, could not contribute to treatment with his interpretation of the situation. A case study represents anideal tool for developing not only an ethical theory that is not created artificially without contact with the phenomena described, but is also firmly anchored in the data collected. The Hippocratic treatment algorithm points out that each disease has its naturalcourse wherein the physician is a tool for implementing a positive reversal based on previous observations.
